Education
Education in its variety of forms presents us with the cultural foundations of the people. Archives document this process in the community from the logistical and pedagogical aspects. Educational statistics often abound in the published world. However, archives present us with the behind the scenes. The thorny issue of the language question and the teaching of foreign languages such as Arabic in different historical epochs are well documented in a number of archival holdings reviewed. The records provide us with rich data about the training of specific professions such as priests and the habits and costumes associated with the process. The human element behind these processes often remains unwritten. But some of it is captured in school log books and private diaries. A strike of luck helps the profession when the latter are deposited in archives that provide access to such human perspectives.
