Audio-visuals are highly discriminated against by archivists, who often overlook the potential of audiovisuals.  This attitude is partially ingrained through centuries of focus on the traditional paper-based records and also in part due to the challenges audio-visual pose to the archivist.  Issues of creation, accessioning, upkeep and access rights become much more complex.  This publication presents a conscious effort to put the rich audio-visual holdings we have in Malta on par with parchment and paper records. Thus, it is hoped that readers browse in the online platform concurrently with their browsing of the book.  The audio-visual material was selected and organised to reach the scope of putting it on the same footing of traditional-format records.  It should not be perceived as merely an add-on or appendices to the book.
